There’s no two ways about it. Smoking is extremely injurious to your health. It harms every organ of your body and leads to all kinds of cancers, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, stroke, cardiovascular disease and cataracts.
Cigarettes cause 87% of lung cancer deaths. Plus, they can lead to stillbirth and low birth weight in women. And if that isn’t bad enough, your cigarette smoke harms the ones you love who breathe in your secondhand smoke. So, you’ve got every reason to quit:
Besides the glaring health hazards, think of the amount of money you can save if you don’t buy cigarettes. It’ll probably be enough to take a vacation! Imagine having more lung capacity – not being short of breath every time you take the stairs or walk quickly.
Quitting will give you more time and make you socially acceptable. You won’t have to look for places to smoke, search for a light or take cigarette breaks while working. You’ll also set a good example for your children. You might like to write down the reasons why you’d like to quit and how you plan on doing it. Whenever you get a strong urge to smoke take a look at the reasons and stay strong in your resolve.
The moment you quit you’ll perceive some benefits, while others will become apparent as time goes by. Remember, the earlier you quit, the more the health benefits. If you quit before the age of 50, the risk of dying over the next 15 years gets reduced by half as against those who carry on smoking.
So, kick butt by kicking the butt!
